My English interpretation

I think it’s going to rain tonight. And because I know you like I know you, you wouldn’t have it any other way—especially if it pours. A storm like that lets you off the hook from going anywhere or seeing anyone. It’s the perfect cover for what you really want to do: get high without excuses or explanations. So grab your kit, take a hit, lie down, close your eyes, and let it all wash over you—just like the rain.

And tomorrow morning, the inevitable will take place. The storm will have passed and your high will have faded, and you’ll continue to hide from the world. But I want you to know that life doesn’t have to be like this. I only wish that you’d find a way to pull away the covers from your face and see the light. If I could, I would take from you the demons that you have to fight in the never-ending battlefield of your mind.

I think it’s going to rain tonight, and because I know you, you wouldn’t have it any other way. Because all you want is to get high and let everything fade away.

And tomorrow morning, you’re going to ask yourself the same thing: “What was up with me yesterday? And why has it been this way for as long as I can remember?”

If you only had ears that were ready to hear, I could answer that. If only you could stop the never-ending cycle of self-sabotage. If only you could remember the hint of a life worth living. If only you could fill that void. If only you could find your own way.

But you can’t and you won’t. And even if you could, you wouldn’t say so. And that’s why you love the rain.

And with every little drop, you feel just a little more alone.

A note on this painting

“This was the only one I ever tried writing on with the painting. I didn’t even finish the song because I ran out of space, so I just left off where I ran out of paper.”
